WELCOME TO AUAF
The American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) is the country's only private, not-for-profit institution of higher education. Established in 2006, AUAF offers an American-style liberal arts education to students from Afghanistan and around the world. Our diverse and vibrant community empowers students to engage in critical thinking, leadership development, and civic responsibility.
Student Government Association (SGA)
SGA, as the Student Government Association, is comprised of upper-class undergraduates that are elected for office by their fellow peers (enrolled students) for each year. The members of the SGA hold the following positions: president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, male representative, and female representative. SGA supports students by providing programming, connections to the university resources, advocating for student needs, sharing resources, supporting students with managing extracurricular activities, and collaborating on managing events. SGA supports the development and programming initiatives of registered student clubs and organizations. SGA helps students to get involved and connected to the university. The SGA members serve in their positions for one academic year.

Student Spotlight

Sahar
Sahar is a BBA student with a concentration in management. She enrolled at AUAF in 2022 and chose a business major because she believes in creating meaningful changes, exercising strong leadership, and cultivating effective planning processes. AUAF supports her in pursuing her goals in this field by offering educational opportunities that meet global standards and foster the empowerment of students. Sahar currently works as a financial and administrative manager for a non-governmental organization that supports Afghan women. She is responsible to highlight and address the challenges and accomplishments of the organization by practicing the knowledge and experience she has gained at AUAF and AUAF’s emphasis on liberal arts and sciences has enabled her to take on various leadership roles throughout her academic journey. In addition, Sahar serves as the president of the AUAF Speakers Club, which assists AUAF students in developing public speaking and networking skills. As a mentor, Sahar shares her academic experiences with newly enrolled students to help them navigate the transition to remote university life. In addition, she participated virtually in the Doha Debate Ambassadors program late last year, gaining profound leadership insights and enhancing her communication skills. Sahar emphasizes the importance of pursuing education in Afghanistan, stating, "Afghan youth need an education that aligns with international standards to thrive in a globalized world. AUAF is the premier institution offering such education, providing the academic rigor for an essential global perspective for students' personal and professional development. Ultimately, by establishing national and global partnerships and providing learning opportunities, the university equips future leaders with creative skills and helps create positive change in Afghanistan."
Student Clubs
At AUAF, students have the opportunity to join a wide range of student clubs, covering areas such as cultural, academic, and recreational interests. These clubs provide a platform for students to collaborate, develop new skills, and contribute to the campus community. Joining a student club is a great way for students to explore their passions and expand their horizons.

Extracurricular Activities
In addition to academic excellence, AUAF offers a variety of extracurricular programs designed to enhance the overall student experience. These programs include community service initiatives, internships, leadership development workshops, and recreational activities. Engaging in these programs allows students to broaden their perspectives, gain practical skills, and make a positive impact within and beyond the university.
