AUAF Announces New Vice President of Development

The American University of Afghanistan is pleased to welcome Mr. Ershad Ahmadi as the Vice President of Development.
“We are thrilled to have Mr. Ahmadi join the American University of Afghanistan,” said Mr. David Sedney, Acting President of AUAF. “I have no doubt that he will be an invaluable leader during this crucial time for AUAF. His background in public service and foreign relations will be an incredible asset as we seek to build a sustainable future for AUAF and provide world-class and affordable education to young Afghans.” In this new role, Mr. Ahmadi will be leading AUAF’s development efforts.
Mr. Ahmadi has over a decade of distinguished public service experience. In his capacity as the Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Mr. Ahmadi was one of the chief negotiators of Afghanistan during the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA)with the United States and Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) with NATO. He has also represented Afghanistan in critical international and regional forums, including the United Nations, NATO Ministerial Meetings, International Contact Group on Afghanistan, Heart of Asia/Istanbul Process meetings and steered successfully Afghanistan’s multilateral and balanced Foreign Policy in a critical period ofthe country’s modern history.
Mr. Ahmadi has served in the highest institutions of statecraft, including as Chief of Programs for the President of Afghanistan, Deputy Head of the High Office of Oversight & Anti-Corruption, Special Advisor to the President of Afghanistan and Chief Speech-Writer, Chargé d’Affairs in Afghanistan’s Embassy in Canada, Director General of Americas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as stints with the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) and international organizations such as UNDP and IOM.

Mr. Ahmadi is a graduate of the University of Sussex in the UK with a Masters in Governance and Development. Before joining AUAF, he was the President of Kabul Compass, a strategic analysis entity, which provided insight and analysis on local and regional issues. Mr. Ahmadi is a member of the Advisory Board at Help for Afghan Heroes Foundation, and also a member of the Founders Board of Hamid Karzai Foundation for Higher Education.
