PDI inaugurated the “Project Management in Renewable Energy Project”

On Sunday 15th October 2017, the Professional Development Institute of the American University of Afghanistan inaugurated the “Project Management in Renewable Energy Project” in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD). Among the speakers were: Dr. Sharif Fayez, Founder of AUAF; Mr. Hameedullah Farooqi, Chancellor of Kabul University; Mr. Essa Qudrat, Senior Advisor to the MRRD Minister; Mr. Mohammad Ajmal Shinwari, Director of Afghanistan Sustainable Energy for Rural Development (ASERD); Ms. Laura Rio, Chief of the Livelihoods and Resilience Unit of UNDP, and Mr. David Heap, a AUAF/PDI Renewable Energy consultant.
The project involves trainings held three times per week on renewable energy solutions in Afghanistan. “We want electricity in every single home in Afghanistan” said Ms. Laura Rio of UNDP.
Although we are well into the second decade of the 21st Century, a large number of the Afghan Community, particularly in rural areas, do not even have basic access to electricity to light their homes. Increasing access to renewable energy is a sustainable way to meet growing energy demands in Afghanistan.
AUAF/PDI is committed to work with the Afghan government, donor agencies and private sector in these areas for the socio-economic development of Afghanistan in order to improve the lives of the people of Afghanistan. PDI has trained hundreds candidates in both governmental and non-governmental entities and intends to scale up its training activities in the future.
