French Ambassador Speaks to AUAF Students
On November 5th, 2015, the French Ambassador to Afghanistan H.E. Jean Michel Marlaud visited the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) to deliver a presentation on the historical relationship between Afghanistan and France. The Ambassador was welcomed by the President of the University, Dr. Mark A. English, Student Government Association (SGA) body, and the University’s senior management.
The presentation started with a welcoming speech by Dr. English for the Ambassador and students in the library. Following the welcoming speech, the Ambassador started his presentation titled "Afghanistan Through French Eyes" to give an idea how French people have seen Afghanistan since the 19th century.
During his presentation he also talked about the history of diplomatic relationships between the two friendly countries. He then provided general information on the historic books written by French authors during 19th century as well as books written by Afghan-French scholars recently. Very Specifically he spoke about two Asian short stories, Lovers of Kandahar & The Famous Magician, which first came to French literature. The Ambassador also touched on further issues such as tourism and excavation by French delegations in Afghanistan through the history.
The presentation was concluded with a short Q&A session with students.
