Master of Arts in Education
The Master of Arts in Education
AUAF launched a master of arts in education in March 2014, and recently graduated the first cohort of students from this program on April 17, 2015. The program is a collaboration between the university, the World Bank and the Ministry of Education. More than 300 instructors (70 of them women) from the 42 Teacher Training Colleges in all 34 provinces of the country spent 13 months undergoing rigorous training by international and national faculty and received master’s degrees in education at the end of the program. The program is designed to deepen the participants’ knowledge in their areas of specialization, acquire modern pedagogical skills, and be equipped with leadership skills. The main features of the program consist of integrated knowledge, research skills, academic writing, critical thinking, computer literacy, and basic English courses. This first and unique program is informed by international research and experimentation on teacher training and faculty development that gives large weight to unique circumstances in Afghanistan as well as its education system – while still meeting international norms and standards.
