Professional programs that follow strict academic standards will help build the brightest possible futures for American University students, their families, and their fellow citizens. To help them build this future, the American University of Afghanistan offers students internationally-supported degree programs that build on the American style of higher education.

Degree programs are chosen based on Afghanistan's need to increase its number of highly-educated and respected professionals, both men and women. To this end, the American University of Afghanistan currently offers three undergraduate degree programs:

Programs modeled after American degree programs have been redesigned to meet the needs of Afghanistan’s emerging business environment. They are based on up-to-date academic material and are taught by highly qualified and experienced professors.

All undergraduate programs at the American University of Afghanistan include an applied general studies component, consisting of 15 courses of study. Through applied general studies, students gain knowledge in a variety of areas in their first two years of study, including both required and elective courses in English composition, mathematics, the natural sciences, arts and humanities, and the social sciences. Although the University is only in its second year of operation, it currently offers over 25 courses in topics ranging from social anthropology to information systems management. For a list of courses the University offers, please see the course catalog.
