Faculty and staff members invite you to get to know the American University of Afghanistan. The University catalog is one place to start, but I prefer and commend this website to you. It is the most useful university website in Afghanistan today. Since the University is transparent, we want you to have all the information you require.
The American University of Afghanistan presents a great opportunity for students. Preparing students not only for major career achievement but also for future leadership in Afghanistan and the world is our goal. While rooted respectfully in Afghan culture and experience, the institution points directly toward the Afghanistan of tomorrow.
All academic and service programs are designed around core institutional values that the university community holds high, notably freedom and responsibility. Concepts derived from these two values include open inquiry, democracy, equal opportunity, individual rights, ethical/ moral behavior, international status, freedom from corruption, honesty, and security. Even while the institution is expanding, our commitment to these ideals will not waver.
We follow a no-barrier-to-admissions policy. Students are recruited without regard to their demographic profiles, financial capacities, beliefs, or personal histories. Energy, integrity, and ambition to learn are more important factors in the admission process.
The American University of Afghanistan emphasizes higher education for the professions supported by applied general studies. In all programs, the University encourages qualities important for career accomplishment, such as critical thinking, tolerance, solid communication and information technology skills, independent judgment, teamwork and a strong work ethic. We want our graduates to be known as much for who they are as for their technical, academic, and professional abilities.
Afghan, American, and international academic, business, and political leaders founded the American University of Afghanistan as the country’s first independent university. It is not-for-profit and not owned by any government. Further, it is non-political, non-sectarian, co-educational, student centered, and internationally supported.
Students and staff members at this still-young institution are all academic pioneers. To build a great university, everyone’s best ideas are important. Welcome to this open higher education experiment that will encourage the best in Afghanistan itself!
