Open House a Success

Over three hundred people attended an open house recruitment event held 8 October 2007 at the AUAF campus in Kabul. The event marked the beginning of the fall application season.
The substantial turnout reflects the great interest in AUAF by members of the community. Participants were able to listen to the Founding President of the University, Dr. Sharif Fayez, and the Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Frank Petrella, speak about what the University can offer its students. "This University is exactly the same as what you would find in Chicago or New York," said Dr. Petrella. "The standards are the same. The international recognition is the same."
Participants also took guided tours of the campus, picked up information on the various programs, and met current students, faculty, and staff.
Following the presentations, participants were invited to break their fast on campus. Iftar, or the breaking of the fast during the holy month of Ramadan, is typically shared with friends and family. By inviting people to its campus for Iftar, AUAF paid tribute to the traditions and culture of Afghanistan.
The event was targeted towards potential students. Participants included high school students, Afghan employees of NGOs operating in Afghanistan, employees of the Afghan government, and members of the business and media communities in Kabul.
AUAF will hold additional recruitment events in the upcoming months. The University, which is the only private, not-for-profit university in Afghanistan, will expand its intake for the upcoming January semester.
