Borrowing Books

The American University of Afghanistan Library will assign patrons a user identification number. Students must show their student photo ID in order to borrow books.  Patrons borrowing library materials accept responsibility for the materials and must ensure that they are returned in the same condition in which they were loaned.  Patrons will be responsible for the replacement cost of lost or damaged materials, as well as a 1,250AFS reordering/cataloging fee.  

Students may borrow up to three items at any one time.  Most materials are loaned for 21 days, and may be renewed once, if another patron has not also requested the item.  If materials are not returned by the due date, a fine of 10 AFS per day will be charged. Patrons are discouraged from lending or sharing books. The person who is on record as having borrowed the material is responsible for its safe and timely return to the library. 

Library Computer Usage

There are numerous computer workstations in the library for patron use. The primary use of these computers is internet and catalog for academic research. Computer games are prohibited.   

Library Instruction

Library orientation sessions, database instruction, research help, and classroom project research assistance can be coordinated by contacting the University Librarian. Individual and group sessions can be scheduled upon request.
