Using the Library Catalog

The online library catalog lists all books and resources in the library collections.  Students may search or browse the catalog to find the information they need.  Instructions for more advanced searches are available under ‘Advanced Search’ in the catalog, or from the information sheet next to the library computer workstations.

The library catalogue can be accessed only on the University campus. To connect to the catalogue, click here

Our Collections

The book collection of the library at the American University of Afghanistan currently numbers approximately 4,000 items, and is expected to grow dramatically in the coming years.  The materials in all collections are arranged according to the Library of Congress (LC) Classification system, which is used by many colleges and universities world-wide.  More information about the LC Classification system is available from the Library of Congress webpage.

The main print collections of the library are the reference and main collections.  The reference collection consists of books such as dictionaries, atlases, grammar guides and other reference books for which a high demand is anticipated.  These materials may be used in the library but are not available for borrowing.

The main research collection is the university's largest and covers all subject areas, providing support for the University’s curriculum.  Materials in this collection may be borrowed for up to 21 days.
