Professor of Business
The American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) is a private, non-profit university offering an American-style liberal arts education. We opened our doors in 2005 and currently offer 3 undergraduate academic majors and a new MBA program. We are a young, dynamic university with a student population of nearly 750 students and we hope to reach 1,000 students by the spring 2013 academic semester. Construction has recently begun on a new 75 acre campus.
AUAF invites applications for a position in all ranks in the Department of Business. The position is primarily to teach undergraduate courses in Finance and secondarily in Accounting, or any other business field as the need arises. Contracts are for three years. The successful applicant is expected to arrive on campus by January 21, 2012. The annual winter break is approximately 3-4 weeks, and the summer break is 2 ½ months. When hired, the successful applicant is expected to provide official proof of academic degrees (transcripts sent from the school directly to AUAF).
Main Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Teach lower- and upper-division courses in business finance.
- Teach lower-division courses in accounting.
- Occasionally teach one or two sections of Introduction to Business to lower-division students.
- Provide a minimum of one type of university service, such as serving on a committee or in the University Senate.
- Normally teach 2-3 preparations and 4 sections per semester.
- Although AUAF is primarily a teaching position, research, and especially the preparation of Afghan business case studies, is highly desirable.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s, Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in business from a Western university.
- Flexibility and a willing, cooperative attitude to meet the needs of a young, fast-growing institution.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience teaching finance in an American or British college or university,
- Experience living in a less developed country.
- Experience in business.
Salary and Compensation:
AUAF offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with education and experience. Additional compensation will be provided for voluntary summer and other overload teaching. AUAF provides round-trip transportation from the home of record to Kabul, an annual travel allowance, housing and transportation in Kabul, and health and life insurance.
