Established in February 2004, the American University of Afghanistan Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to supporting the University primarily through awareness-raising and fundraising efforts.

The Foundation raises awareness among the general public of the work being done by the University and raises funds to support specific projects by the University and other qualifying institutions of higher education within Afghanistan."

Based in Virginia, United States, the Foundation has been granted tax-exempt status under article 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Consequently all contributions made from US income are fully tax deductible for U.S. income tax purposes.
