Under new leadership committed to rapid institutional growth and improvement, the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) is seeking to double the size of its current faculty. The university welcomes expressions of interest and applications in the following disciplines: the teaching of English as a second language; business (especially finance, accounting, economics and management); the social sciences and humanities (especially political science and international relations); mathematics; English composition; and information technology and computer science (especially database management, artificial intelligence, and human computer interface). The fall term will begin in late August, 2010, and faculty members are expected to be in Kabul two weeks before classes begin.
AUAF is located on the outskirts of Kabul. Construction of a new campus, adjacent to the current facilities, will begin in 2010. Current enrollment is approximately 500 students, and an enrollment of 800 students is anticipated for the fall, 2010 term. The university enjoys significant funding from USAID and private donors, but relies also on student tuition to fund much of its operations. Students are eager learners and appreciative of the extraordinary opportunity the university provides them.
Salaries and benefits (including housing provided free of charge) are commensurate with the challenges of living and working in Afghanistan, and the personal rewards of contributing to an important institution at a critical time in its history and the history of the nation are very great.
