Candidates applying for admission to undergraduate degree programs at the American University of Afghanistan, as well as to other English-language universities outside Afghanistan, require a high level of English proficiency. Because English is also an increasingly important language in fields such as international business, development, and diplomacy, demonstrated English skills can assist in career enhancement. Solid proof of English proficiency is provided by a successful score on standardized tests, notably the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
The TOEFL is the most common assessment of English-language skills of non-native speakers. Although successful TOEFL results are extremely useful as an internationally-recognized proof of English proficiency, taking the TOEFL exam can be challenging and costly.
To assist candidates in successfully preparing for the TOEFL, the American University of Afghanistan offers a four-week preparation course designed to help students acquire the skills and confidence necessary to achieve a successful score on the internet-based TOEFL (iBT). Concentrating on the four areas of the test (listening, speaking, reading and writing), students learn transferable test-taking skills and strategies. Practice tests and timed exercises help students gain confidence and perform well on the real test.
