As a private, not-for-profit institution, the American University of Afghanistan must charge a subsidized fee for all courses offered. For academic year 2008-2009, the basic fee structure for the different programs is:

Fees
Tuition and fees cover the cost of the tests/courses only and are payable to the Student Finance Office. The student is responsible for all other costs associated with attending the American University of Afghanistan, including books, transportation, and living expenses.
It is expected that every student shall bear the cost of their education. However, a financial assistance program and a work study program are in place for students who need financial support. Financial Assistance Applications are available from the Student Finance Office.
* Once accepted into the Undergraduate Program or the Foundations Studies Program, students are required to pay a non-refundable deposit of 25,000 AFS in order to register for any courses. This deposit will go towards tuition costs.
